Feeding Hope, Sustaining Lives: Our Hunger Eradication Program.

“Helping those in need is charity, and helping based on

understanding their needs is Dharma.”

In line with this principle, EEGA Trust has designed and implemented the noble “Hunger Relief Program” to address the basic and essential food requirements of individuals who are in urgent need of it. This program is focused on providing food to people in distress and those unable to access regular meals. The program serves the needy in Erode district’s Perundurai and Nagapattinam district’s Vedaranyam areas, offering daily meals to approximately 300+ individuals, including elderly people, homeless people, abandoned children, those unable to cook due to old age, and mentally disturbed individuals living on the streets.serve.

The program ensures the distribution of three wholesome meals per day to these beneficiaries. The meals are delivered directly to their locations at the designated times to ensure they receive nutritious and fresh food. The daily menu includes:

  • Breakfast: Idli with chutney, sambar, and tea.
  • Lunch: Rice, Gravy, vegetable curry, rasam, curd, appalam, and vada.
  • Dinner: Idli with chutney and sambar.

Additionally, drinking water is provided with every meal to ensure hydration. Importantly, the meals are served without interruption, even during adverse weather conditions such as storms, rains, or floods. The program has no holiday; it operates consistently year-round to support the community.

The food is prepared in a hygienic and nutritious manner, with fresh and healthy vegetables being included in the meals. Rather than providing packaged food, meals are served directly on Areca Leaf plates (Packu Mattai). Gravy, rasam, and curd are given in paper cups, ensuring an environmentally friendly approach with no use of plastic or polythene materials that might harm the environment.

Meals are transported in hot boxes by van, ensuring that the food remains hot, fresh, and tasty when delivered. This careful approach ensures that there is no wastage, as the beneficiaries eat their meals without discarding any food. The program also supports those with mental health issues, identifying them and making special efforts to deliver food directly to them. Even if they are not at their usual location, the staff tracks them down to ensure they receive their meals.

Serving mentally disturbed individuals can be challenging as their behavior can be erratic and intense. However, with patience and persistence, their condition improves, and over time, their aggressive behavior decreases. The consistent provision of food guarantees their daily nutritional needs and extends their life expectancy.

The funds for this program are raised through donations and contributions, both in cash and in kind. In addition, donors from local communities, such as Thopputhurai and Periyakuthakai villages, contribute a portion of the food from their own celebrations and promising events, further supporting this noble cause.

Through this initiative, EEGA Trust ensures that no individual, regardless of their circumstances, has to go hungry. This program provides not only sustenance but also dignity and hope to those in need.
