Special Shelter for Patient’s Attendant – Vedaranyam

“A Safe & Affordable Resting Space for Caregivers.”

In government hospitals, caregivers who accompany patients — often from remote or rural areas — struggle to find a safe and affordable place to stay. Many are forced to sleep in corridors or outdoors, enduring fatigue and harsh conditions.
To address this need, a Special Shelter for Patient Attendants was established under the National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM) and handed over to the Vedaranyam Municipality. The shelter is operated and managed by EEGA Trust since 2023, providing a crucial support service for families in medical distress.

About the Shelter
Launched in 2023, this facility offers a clean, secure, and affordable place for family members and caregivers to rest while attending to their hospitalized loved ones.
Managed by EEGA Trust, the shelter functions with daily outreach from staff who coordinate with hospital teams to refer those in need. The initiative has already supported annually 2,000+ patient attenders.
